6. Learn to de-stress

Chronic tension raises blood pressure and increases levels of stress hormones which can trigger the building up of plaque in the arteries in the heart. "Stress may actually cause damage to artery walls in addition to plaque buildup," cautions Eve Adamson, author of The Everything Stress Management Book.
