6. The Pill may not protect you straight away

When you first start taking the Pill, it is always recommended to use a backup method of birth control (such as a condom or diaphragm) for the first month until you've completed your first pack. This is because there is a chance that you ovulated before you took your first pill -- if this is the case, the egg could be fertilized without you even knowing it.
